Negotiations on mayoral control temporarily on hold!

April 17, 2024

Because of a cyberattack that hit Albany, negotiations over Mayoral control and the budget are temporarily on hold.

Meanwhile, the only education organization that has publicly come out in favor of extending Mayoral control is the charter school lobby – whose schools are not governed by the Mayor, though he’s done them lots of favors.

Please keep on sending letters to your legislators, urging them to listen to the hundreds of parents and teachers who spoke out at the borough hearings about the need to reform the governance system to provide checks and balances and real accountability for our public school students.

If you’ve already sent letters, please call the three most powerful people in Albany, to urge them NOT to include Mayoral control in the budget, because NYC parents and kids deserve better than to have their rights traded away in this way:

Governor Kathy Hochul 518-474-8390 X1

Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins 518-455-2715

Speaker Carl Heastie 518-455-3791
