Last chance to sign up for our Parent Action Conference; and violation of student privacy by charter CEO

November 2, 2015

Dear Friend,

Registration for our Parent Action Conference on Sat. Nov. 7 in Brooklyn at PS 133 is almost closed; tickets are going fast.  Please sign up now if you want to attend.  Kids age 6 and up will participate in a workshop designing playgrounds; lunch is free and Public Advocate Tish James will speak, along with CMs Brad Lander, Carlos Menchaca and Danny Dromm.

But the most important reason to attend is to help us draft an Parent Action Agenda on school overcrowding, Mayoral control, special education, class size, School Leadership Teams, student privacy and a host of other critical issues.  Please register today; and hope to see you there!

  1. As you may have heard, PBS News Hourand the NY Times recently ran exposes on the widespread suspension of young children and push-out practices of Success Academy charters.  In retaliation, Eva Moskowitz, the CEO, released details of a child’s disciplinary records in violation of federal law.  See the Cease and Desist letter that Fatima Geidi, the parent, sent Ms. Moskowitz, and the FERPA complaint she sent to the US Department of Education.   For more on this shocking violation of student privacy, see this article in Slate.

Thanks,

Leonie Haimson
Executive Director
