Issue briefing for parents on Monday and other news

Jan. 27, 2022

1. This Monday evening, Jan. 31, Class Size Matters and NYC Kids PAC will be co-hosting a issue briefing via Zoom, designed for CEC members but other interested parents/teachers/advocates are welcome as well. We’ll be providing lots of useful info on Mayoral control, class size and the Capital plan, diversity and equity, and charter schools.

NYC Public School Advocacy Primer
Monday, January 31st,  6:00PM; presented by Class Size Matters & NYC Kids PAC

Please register for the online workshop here.

2. The state education budget hearings were held yesterday. We submitted testimony on the failure of the DOE to live up to their commitments when it comes to class size and public input required in developing their Contracts for Excellence plan, as well as a troubling lack of State enforcement. You can check out my testimony here, along with the testimony of Wendy Lecker of the Education Law Center.

3. Finally, this Sat. Jan. 29 at 1 PM EST, our Talk out of School radio show will feature parent and teacher activist from Tampa Florida, Los Angeles and Chicago, talking about how their districts have dealt with the pandemic in terms of health, safety and learning.   Please tune in at WBAI radio 99.5 FM, or at wbai.org — or you can download the podcast on Sunday here.

Keep safe and warm, Leonie
