DOE wants to cut 22,000 seats from the capital plan — needed to alleviate overcrowding & reduce class size

See the fact sheet here and below, showing how DOE wants to cut more than 22,000 new school seats from 15 school districts, and more than $2.2 billion from new capacity out of the capital plan, compared to the plan adopted in June 2021 — just when there needs to be MORE seats to lower class size to the levels mandated in the new state law.  The districts not mentioned below have no new seats planned.

DOE is also in the process of leasing closing parochial school buildings for charter schools rather than acquiring them to lessen public school overcrowding  — even in very overcrowded communities like the north of District 10, where several nearby elementary schools are over 125% capacity, while cutting over a thousand seats from D10  at the same time.
