Comments on DOE draft proposed class size plan from Class Size Matters and Education Law Center

July 29, 2026

Earlier today Class Size Matters and the Education Law Center sent a letter to Chancellor Samuels as part of the public comment process,  urging DOE to improve and amend the draft class size reduction proposal. We called for clear descriptions of the specific funding, policies and levers that will be employed to ensure that 80% of classes are in compliance by the 2026-2027 school year, and 90% to 100% over the following two years, providing the transparency that the law requires.  Only then can we be sure that necessary space and staffing will be provided to allow schools to meet the benchmarks in the law.

Included below is our letter, which you can also access here.

Thanks,

Leonie
