News from our press conference and final reminder to sign up in advance for our Parent Action Conference!
1. Yesterday’s press conference with parent leaders urging the Mayor to involve parents in a transparent public process to select a new Chancellor was a great success. About 30 parent activists turned up even in the rain, and we received good coverage in the Daily News, NY1, Wall St. Journal and elsewhere. Check out my blog for links to the news coverage.
Lindsey Christ of NY1 posted a video clip, showing de Blasio promise when he ran for Mayor in 2012 that unlike Bloomberg, he would hold a “serious serious public screening” in choosing a new Chancellor. “No one said mayoral control meant a mayoral narrow inability to communicate, to give the public a role, to air ideas and decisions before they were made. We need a more democratic small “d” version of mayoral control and we need a chancellor who is presented to the public not just forced down their throat.”
As usual, the Mayor will be on the Brian Lehrer show tomorrow on WNYC at 10 AM. Please consider calling 212-433-WNYC to ask him why he now refuses to live up to his promises.
2. Our Parent Action Conference is now less than two days away — on Saturday Jan. 27. Last chance to reserve your seat in advance by clicking here. I predict it will be both fun and illuminating.
Hope to see you Saturday!
