Reminder about anti-AI rally tomorrow and update on capital plan vote
April 15, 2026
A quick reminder and update:
1. Please join other NYC parents, students, teachers and advocates tomorrow Thursday April 16 at City Hall Park, when we will call for a moratorium on the use of AI in the classroom and deliver our petition and also national letter on the issue to the Mayor’s office. (Entrance to the park at Broadway and Park Pl.) For more info on this event, and to RSVP, click here.
2. Likely because of the emails that many of you sent about the inadequacy of the current capital plan, members of the Panel on Educational Policy asked for the vote scheduled for tonight to be delayed, and the DOE agreed to move it to their April 29 meeting. Whether the plan will be improved by then is unclear.
I hope parents, teachers, and others concerned about this issue will continue to highlight the lack of space in their schools to be able to lower class size to mandated levels, and will contact their elected representatives to keep the pressure on DOE decisionmakers to produce a real workable class size plan for all NYC students. And if any of you might be able to express your concerns in person at the April 29 PEP meeting, to be held at M.S. 131 on 100 Hester Street in Manhattan, please let me know.
thanks Leonie
