Three ways to help us ensure NYC kids get smaller classes!

June 16, 2025

This Wednesday night, June 18, at 6:30 PM we are holding our annual Skinny Award dinner, to honor Commissioner Betty Rosa as the first state education leader in the nation to openly defy Trump’s attempt to eliminate diversity and equity from our schools. If you appreciate her courage, and/or value the work Class Size Matters does for NYC students, please reserve your ticket now, or make a tax-deductible donation to our organization in her name. It’s always one of the most joyous evenings of the year.

Also, tonight, Monday June 16 at 6 PM is the final state-mandated borough hearing to give feedback on the DOE’s purported class size “plan”, which is really no real plan at all. DOE continues to refuse to explain how overcrowded schools that enroll nearly half of all students will gain enough space to lower class size, either by building enough new schools and/or by adjusting their enrollment accordingly.  You can sign up to speak via Zoom here; some talking points you can draw from are here.

Finally, there is an important NYC election happening right now, with early voting happening all this week through Sunday, with your final opportunity to vote next Tuesday, June 24. To hear what the mayoral candidates had to say about class size at the debate last week, please check out our blog here.

Hope to see you Wednesday night at the Skinnies!
