Updated analysis: total Galaxy school cuts as of July 14, 2022 now at $1.42 billion

Yesterday, July 14, we again analyzed the total Galaxy school budgets via an automated mechanism, scraping the data posted on the DOE Galaxy look-up tool here .  Our new spreadsheet is here.  According to our analysis, the overall school cuts for FY 23 now total about $1.42 billion compared to FY 22; with 97% of schools experiencing cuts averaging $940,268 each.

Clearly the DOE has this information but has refused to release it.  When we earlier reported the figures for June 13, 2022, showing total cuts to schools’ Galaxy budgets as of that date at more than $1.7 billion, the DOE and others tried to dispute the figure’s significance by claiming that more funds would be added to school budgets over the summer.

Of course, that was true, but funds added later in the summer are limited and to be used for specialized purposes, and generally not for staffing.
