Last chance to attend our Parent Action Conference, and an update on class size!
May 20, 2021
Last chance to sign up for our Parent Action Conference, co-sponsored by NYC Kids PAC and Teens Take Charge, to be held this Sat. at 11 AM, May 22. All parents, teachers, students and concerned New Yorkers are invited. We want to hear your thoughts on how the additional $8B in state and federal funds should be spent.
We will also have brief keynote addresses to hear from Rep. Jamaal Bowman, NY State Sen. Robert Jackson and CM Mark Treyger about the purpose of these funds.
Just sign up here, and we’ll send you the link tomorrow.
Also, last chance also to take our five- minute survey, whether or not you can attend; we want to hear your top priorities for this spending. Deadline; tonight Thursday May 20 at 7 PM.
There were budget hearings at the City Council yesterday. Chancellor Meisha Porter admitted that smaller classes were important to provide students with the support they need, and said that she wanted to “leverage resources” for that purpose, but made no specific promises as to what dollar amount or how the funding would be allocated.
So please sign our petition to the Mayor and Chancellor to urge them to support the City Council proposal of $250M for smaller classes next year.
Also, please remember to send an email to your state Legislators, if you haven’t already, to ask them to sign onto the bill requiring NYC to update and renew their commitment to lower class size.
Hope to see you on Saturday!
Thanks, Leonie
