Last day to comment on DOE’s C4E proposal!

Sept. 2, 2021

1. Tomorrow, Friday Sept. 3 is the last day to submit your comments on DOE’s Contract for Excellence proposal, which allocates not a single cent towards lowering class size — even though this was a central issue that led the court to decide in the CFE case that NYC children were denied their constitutional right to a basic education. Just click here, to send your comments to DOE, your legislators and the State Education Department.

2. School is due to start Sept. 13, just 11 days away. The NYC Council Education and Health committees held joint hearings yesterday to hear from city officials on DOE’s school opening plan. Here is our testimony, pointing out the many weaknesses in their plan. Among other things, DOE plans to do too little Covid testing and too much standardized testing.

3. This Saturday on WBAI-FM 99.5 FM at 1 PM, I’ll be interviewing CM Mark Levine, chair of the Health Committee, to hear his views on DOE’s reopening plan. Please tune in!

thanks, Leonie
